Eight Fall Activities in the Eastern Townships
September 3, 2025
The Eastern Townships is renowned for its fall colours. When the leaves start to turn, blanketing the countryside in a dazzling display of orange, yellow and red foliage, our corner of the country becomes more beautiful than ever. The colour season is short, but it’s pure magic!
We’ve put together a list of activities that you can enjoy during the autumn season. There’s lots to see and do in the Townships, all set amid a backdrop of Mother Nature in all her glory!
After a day in the outdoors, when you’ve worked up a good appetite, you can kick back at the Burger Pub! Recharge your batteries with a hearty burger, a decadent poutine or a plate of finger-licking ribs. Yum!
La flambée des couleurs
This popular annual festival at Mount Orford celebrates the colour season. Held every weekend from mid-September to mid-October, it invites “leaf peepers” to take a bird’s eye view of the changing landscape. Visitors can reach the summit of the mountain on foot or by riding the ski lift. The festival also features themed, family-friendly events.

Cycling and Hiking
In the Eastern Townships you can enjoy the outdoors at any time of the year. Don’t pack away your hiking boots just yet! Many trails and backroads are still open.
If you like to travel the countryside on two wheels, check out the popular cycle trails in Orford and the surrounding area. We also have some suggestions for hikers. If you would like to tackle Mount Orford at your own pace, we suggest the “three summit” challenge (as outlined below).
La Coupe des Trois Sommets
Lace up your running shoes and get those legs pumping! There are three trail options—the “mini-coupe” (a short run suitable for kids), the Coupe Giroux (5-km run on Mount Giroux) and Coupe des 3 Sommets, a three-peak, 12-km hike—a breathtaking mountain experience, in both senses of the word!
Golfing in the Fall
Keep your golf bag handy! Most courses stay open until late in the fall season, sometimes even up to Halloween. The following five golf venues are well worth a detour—an opportunity to play the greens surrounded by trees clad in red, yellow and orange!
Watch the birds on the move!
During the fall, many birds leave Quebec, migrating to warmer climes until spring rolls around once again. Sometimes thousands congregate in huge flocks, ready to depart on their long flights. A spectacular phenomenon of nature that can be observed at sites around the region such as Burbank Pond. Don’t forget to pack your binoculars and even your camera to record this extraordinary passage of the seasons!
U-Pick Produce
The harvesting of the fall produce is in full swing and that means that farms are offering visitors the opportunity to pick their own fruit and vegetables. You can preserve them for the winter or eat them the minute you get home!
Across the region, you’ll find farms that grow pumpkins, squash, apples, pears and even plums.

VéloVolant
If you have a sense of adventure, you MUST try this activity at Au Diable Vert—the only such attraction in Canada! VéloVolant is a type of “flying bike” attached to a cable between the treetops and the speed at which it travels is governed by your own pedal strokes. What a fun, unusual way to view the fall colours!
Giant Zipline
And here’s another activity sure to appeal to adventure seekers: a giant, 1-km zipline at Mount Sutton. It can reach speeds of up to 100 km per hour—hair-raising to say the least!
A short ride on a chairlift takes you to the top of the zipline tower, then whiiiiizzzzz off you go, across a kaleidoscope of colours in the forest far below… An aerial thrill that is certainly not for the faint-hearted!
After all these outdoor adventures, you’ll need something substantial to quell your appetite and quench your thirst. Drop by the Burger Pub for a hearty meal and a refreshing drink. We’ll be happy to welcome you!
