The Eastern Townships is renowned for\u00a0its fall colours.\u00a0When the\u00a0leaves\u00a0start to turn,\u00a0blanketing\u00a0the countryside in a dazzling display of orange, yellow and red foliage, our corner of the country becomes more beautiful than ever.\u00a0The colour season is short, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0pure magic!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve\u00a0put together a list of\u00a0activities\u00a0that you can enjoy during\u00a0the autumn season.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0lots to see and do\u00a0in the Townships,\u00a0all set\u00a0amid a backdrop of Mother Nature in all her glory!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a day in the outdoors, when\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0worked up a good appetite, you can kick back at the\u00a0Burger Pub<\/a>!\u00a0Recharge your batteries with a hearty burger, a decadent\u00a0poutine\u00a0or a plate of finger-licking ribs. Yum!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La flamb\u00e9e des couleurs<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This\u00a0popular\u00a0annual festival\u00a0at Mount Orford\u00a0celebrates the colour season. Held every weekend from mid-September to mid-October,\u00a0it invites \u201cleaf peepers\u201d to\u00a0take\u00a0a bird\u2019s eye view of the changing landscape.\u00a0Visitors\u00a0can reach\u00a0the summit\u00a0of the mountain\u00a0on foot or by\u00a0riding the\u00a0ski lift. The festival also features themed, family-friendly events.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n

Cycling and\u00a0Hiking<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the Eastern Townships you can enjoy the outdoors at any time of the year.\u00a0Don\u2019t\u00a0pack away your hiking boots just yet! Many trails and backroads are still open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u00a0like to travel the countryside on two wheels,\u00a0check out the\u00a0popular cycle\u00a0trails in Orford and the surrounding area.\u00a0We also have some suggestions for\u00a0hikers. If\u00a0you would like to\u00a0tackle\u00a0Mount Orford\u00a0at\u00a0your\u00a0own\u00a0pace,\u00a0we suggest the \u201cthree summit\u201d challenge\u00a0(as outlined below).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n

La Coupe des Trois Sommets<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lace up your running shoes\u00a0and get those\u00a0legs\u00a0pumping! There are three\u00a0trail\u00a0options\u2014the \u201cmini-coupe\u201d (a short run suitable for\u00a0kids), the Coupe Giroux (5-km run on Mount Giroux) and Coupe des 3\u00a0Sommets,\u00a0a three-peak, 12-km hike\u2014a breathtaking mountain experience, in both senses of the word!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Golfing in the Fall<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Keep your golf bag handy! Most\u00a0courses\u00a0stay open until late in the fall season, sometimes even up\u00a0to\u00a0Halloween. The\u00a0following five golf venues<\/a> are well worth\u00a0a detour\u2014an opportunity to play the greens surrounded by trees clad in red,\u00a0yellow\u00a0and orange!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watch the\u00a0birds on the move!<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the fall, many birds leave Quebec, migrating to warmer climes until spring rolls around once\u00a0again.\u00a0Sometimes thousands congregate in huge flocks, ready to\u00a0depart\u00a0on their long flights. A\u00a0spectacular phenomenon\u00a0of nature that can be\u00a0observed\u00a0at sites\u00a0around the region\u00a0such as Burbank Pond. Don\u2019t\u00a0forget to pack your binoculars and even your camera to record this extraordinary\u00a0passage of the seasons!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U-Pick<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Produce<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The harvesting of the fall produce is in full swing and that means that farms are offering visitors the opportunity to pick their own fruit and vegetables. You can preserve them for the winter or eat them the minute you get home!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the region, you’ll find farms that grow pumpkins, squash, apples, pears and even plums. <\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n

V\u00e9loVolant<\/mark><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you have a sense of adventure,\u00a0you\u00a0MUST\u00a0try this activity\u00a0at Au\u00a0Diable\u00a0Vert\u2014the only such attraction in Canada!\u00a0V\u00e9loVolant\u00a0is a type of \u201cflying bike\u201d attached to a cable between the treetops\u00a0and the speed at which it travels is governed by your own\u00a0pedal strokes. What a fun, unusual way to view the fall colours!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n

Giant<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Zipline<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

And here\u2019s another activity sure to appeal to adventure seekers: a giant, 1-km zipline at Mount Sutton. It can reach speeds of up to 100 km per hour\u2014hair-raising to say the least!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A short ride on a chairlift takes you to the top of the zipline tower, then whiiiiizzzzz off you go, across a kaleidoscope of colours in the forest far below\u2026 An aerial thrill that is certainly not for the faint-hearted!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all these outdoor adventures, you\u2019ll need something substantial to quell your appetite and quench your thirst.
